John J. Fischer is a fourth generation Texan, born in Austin, Texas, and raised in the semi-Wild West environment of Central Texas. After more than two decaes in the U.S. Marine Corps, a period that encompassed World War II, the Korean Confilct, the Bay of Pigs, and the onset of the Vietnam debacle, he retired from the military.During his retirement, he entered the corporate world and also became a certified flight instructor. His business career ended in 1981. His flight instructor career ceased in 1993 at age seventy-one by way of an EKG that was a lot less than perfect. When his flying ended after almost sixty years, he had logged almost 23,000 hours. His writing career began after a visit from an old and dear friend from U.S. Marine Corps days. They spent the evening relating some of those war stories that are often enhanced by several after-dinner brandies. His children listened, and then insisted that he put these stories on paper. This is his second book of the Korean War. It is hoped that others will follow before memory fades. He extends his gratitude to his wife of fifty-seven years for her parience when the word processor begins to make those clicking noises at 0300 when he finds it necessary to put a newly remembered flashback on paper before he forgets it. |
